Winter in Bloom

It may be cold outside, but it’s never too early to start planning for spring! Art in Bloom starts early this year at the MIA. Save the date to spend the evening immersed in a prelude to spring with friends, flowers and food.
Begin the evening by sparking your imagination with docent-led tours of favorite artworks interpreted at Art in Bloom. Then, in a presentation at 6:30 p.m., Soni Forsman, “the queen of water lilies” who grew the white lotus featured as Art in Bloom’s signature image, will share tips and information on water gardening from container gardens to luxurious ponds. Afterward, previous Art in Bloom People’s Choice Award winners Kristie Harrison and Mickey O’Kane will be on hand to demonstrate how they so artfully execute their floral interpretations year after year, and how you can do the same!
The cost is $30, which includes all of the activities mentioned above plus hearty appetizers. Valet parking will also be available for $5.

We here in Continuing Education are offering a great Curiosity Camp for adults called “The Edible Urban Landscape.” It starts at 9:30 a.m. and concludes at 4:30 p.m., and costs only $125 (includes breakfast, lunch and instruction). Participants would spend a day learning how to create a landscape not only beautiful, but able to provide edible abundance from University experts Gary Johnson and Julie Weisenhorn. There will be a local/whole foods demonstration with Chef Jenny Breen, too (people will learn how to make a “green” picnic and enjoy eating it). Hope to see some of you there. Call .
